麻省理工学院 - MIT

麻省理工学院 (máshěng lǐgōng xuéyuàn)- MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I studied Computer Science here, and also worked as Sponsored Research Staff for a while.

MIT is in 麻省 (máshěng, "MA province") a variant of 麻州 (mázhōu, "MA state") the more common abbreviation for 麻萨诸塞州 (麻薩諸塞州 másàzhūsāizhōu) the official name of Massachusetts.

理工 (lǐgōng, literally "reason/logic work") is "science" or "engineering", what everyone studies here.

A 学院 (xuéyuàn, "study public place") is a college or institute.

That liberal arts school up the river is 哈佛大学 (hāfó dàxué, "Laughing Buddha University"), where millions of Chinese parents want to send their children. I studied Chinese at 哈佛夜学 (Harvard Extension School) with 林老师,万老师 and 吴老师.
